Magic: The Gathering was founded as the definitive fantasy tabletop card game, but has always proven able to redefine itself for the times. One way this has manifested is with Magic's ability to adapt seemingly incompatible franchises into the format, eventually ballooning into a sprawling crossover in its own right. With the relatively recent advent of Universes Beyond, this trend has become completely codified. With more and more crossover sets releasing at a breakneck pace, Magic: The Gathering could risk losing its identity altogether.
