Nowadays, it seems like every other week a publisher announces plans to officially shut down a game. In the best-case scenario, they might be delisted from stores and not rendered completely unplayable, though two recent Final Fantasy games weren't so lucky. On the one hand, I kind of understand that you cannot keep an online-only game running that nobody wants to play; however, there needs to be a middle ground between forever servers and complete burial.
