Blizzard’s top-down, made-for-mobile shooter Overwatch Rush has entered soft launch, according to social media posts from Blizzard staffers.
The beta test began on August 31 in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia, according to several LinkedIn posts from the development and marketing team.
“We’re about to hit a huge milestone for Blizzard and the Overwatch franchise – Overwatch Rush is about to go into soft launch,” said Blizzard’s director of user acquisition Danika Wilkinson. “Years of hard work have gone into this one, and we couldn’t be prouder of how it’s looking. Still lots more to come.”
Blizzard announced Overwatch Rush back in February. It’s set in the Overwatch universe and developed by a dedicated mobile team within Blizzard.
Players in soft launch countries have also started to post footage from the game on YouTube:
The Diablo and World of Warcraft maker has quietly earned a fortune from its mobile games over the years. Hearthstone’s mobile port continues to earn $3-5m per month and is close to breaking the $1bn mark, according to AppMagic estimates.
Diablo Immortal, made in collaboration with NetEase, has also been a success, pulling in roughly $3-4m per month and over $420m over its lifetime, according to AppMagic estimates.
Warcraft Rumble has not hit the same mark, though. It is still live on the app stores but is effectively on autopilot after Blizzard cut a reported 100 staff on the project and confirmed it would not be adding any more new content to the title in July 2025.
